Do you have room in your garage to park your car? The initial reason for the garage was to house your car without the worry of damage from the outside elements. Today, most garages are used for storage and not for the vehicle. In fact, most people have their garage packed with a variety of items that they do not have room for in their home. If you want to get your garage back, these tips will help you tackle organization in just one weekend. Take a look.

Have a Plan in Place

You do not want to jump into an organization project without some type of plan in place. You should have an idea of what to clean, where to put things, and when you plan to finish.

Remove Everything from Your Garage

Yes, it sounds like a big task, but you will appreciate that you did it in the end. Remove all items from your garage and place them in the driveway. Once everything is removed, take some time to wipe down the shelves, sweep the floor, and do any other housekeeping you need to. This would be a good time for you to paint the garage floor should you choose to.

Sort Through Your Items

It is likely that you have tons of items that you do not actually need in your garage right now from expired paint to those old brushes that should have been tossed ages ago. Now is the time for you to toss out those things and only keep the items you plan to use in the future.

Once you have sorted through the items, separate the items into piles such as cleaning supplies, tools, garden equipment, etc.

Utilize Wall Space to Your Best Ability

Yes, you may have to go out and spend a little bit of money on an organizational system, but you will end up loving it. Many garages are void of shelving systems, which makes them inconvenient to use when you need to store things. A shelving unit or organizational system will help you keep your things grouped together.

Once you have the shelving in place, make sure to place your items on it so they are up off the floor and keep all grouped items with one another.

Get a Laundry Cart

Place a laundry cart between your washer and dryer in your garage so that you do not have to worry about the dryer sheets or laundry soap being all over the garage. The laundry cart will allow you to store the additional laundry accessories you have without making a mess of them.

Recruit Some Help

Of course, you cannot do all of this by yourself, so it is important that you try to recruit some friends or family members that can help you with this. Organizing the garage is not fun and can be a challenge but with some friends, pizza, and drinks, you will find yourself in much better spirits and ready to tackle all your clutter.
