If you have a cluttered office space, it can make it difficult to not only work, but to concentrate. If you are unable to concentrate and focus on your work, you will find that you are reprimanded by your superior or you will lose clients. Neither situation is ideal and you need to whip your office space back into shape before you feel completely lost in the mess. Below, we will go over some tips to help you organize your office space quickly and effectively.

  1. Get Rid of Junk

The first step in organizing your office space is to get rid of any junk or trash that is on your desk or in your desk. This includes old erasers that you will never use, condiment packets that you saved from the last time you ate a sub, and so on. The more items you have, the more clutter that exists.

  1. Clear Off Your Desk

Now that you have thrown away trash and you have gotten rid of junk, you can now clear off your desk and get rid of anything on it. You should only keep necessities on your desk such as your computer keyboard, mouse pad, pens and pen holder, and maybe some sticky notes. Anything that you do not use on a regular, daily basis needs to find a home within your desk.

  1. Place Important Paperwork in Files

Grab all of your important paperwork and place each one into a manila folder and then label the folders, so that you know what paperwork is where. If you have papers scattered all over your desk, you will find that you are unable to locate important paperwork when you need it and this is not only frustrating for you, but frustrating for your coworkers and even your clients.

  1. Use Shelves and Cabinets to Store Your Files

Once your paperwork is completely sorted, you should place the files into cabinets. These cabinets can vary in size from a couple of drawers to many different drawers. It helps if you label the front of each cabinet drawer with what files are inside. This way, you can quickly access the information you need, when you need it.

If you are short on space in your office, consider hanging some shelving on the walls and use it to store some of the items that you need, but cannot fit in your desk or drawers. For example, you can place useful books on the shelves and secure them in place using book ends.

Clutter and disorganization does not fit well within your office space and will only cause confusion and frustration, especially when you need to work or locate something that was misplaced. If you take the time to organize your cabinets, desk, and office, you will find that you are much more productive and you are able to function within your office space.

If you find that you have too many items or you need more storage space, consider renting a self-storage unit today!
