Did you think your move would go smoothly without any hiccups? While it would be nice, it does not always happen this way and many times, there are unexpected things that put your move to a halt. The best way to prepare for these obstacles is to know about them and plan for them in the beginning. Below, we will go over some of the top problems that often arise during a move.

Problem 1: Your Movers Don’t Show Up

We have all heard the horror stories about movers who show up late to their appointment and the move gets off to a rocky start, but what about the movers who never show up? This is probably one of the worst problems that you could have happen. To help you fight back against this, have a backup plan in place just in case this happens and always confirm your appointment with the moving company a couple of days before the move date and then the evening before the move date.

Problem 2: Your Furniture Will Not Fit Through Your New Doors

Uh-oh! This has happened to just about everyone who has had to make a move in their lifetime. You finally have just a couple of pieces of furniture left and as you try to get the couch through the door, it won’t go.

One of the best ways to combat this issue is to take measurements of the doorway and your furniture prior to move day. If it won’t fit, either sell it and purchase something new or disassemble the furniture when possible.

Problem 3: The Moving Truck Gets into an Accident

Whoops! The moving truck got into an accident and now you are sitting in your new home without all of your furniture or belongings. If you have hired a moving company, this may be a tough position to be in, especially since you are not the one in control of your furniture. To handle this situation, call the moving company and see if they have another team available to go pick up your items and bring them to your home. If the accident is minor, you may just simply have to wait a few hours extra until your items arrive.

Problem 4: Stairs, but No Elevator

If you are moving into a building or an apartment and there are stairs, but no elevators, you are in for quite a bit of lifting. This is not an ideal situation and you need to make sure you are thoroughly prepared for it. To help you prepare for it, make sure you have enough movers to help you lift the heavy items and get them up the stairs. Another way to combat the problem is to split the move up into two or three days. This way, you are not lifting a ton of items all at once.

These above four problems are ones that you do not want to face, but they happen more than you may think. In addition to them, you need to be prepared for injuries, damaged items, and more.
