Congratulations on your decision to move out of state. This will be an exciting time for you, but it comes with a lot of planning and preparation on your part as well. Moving from one state to another is not always easy but it is not impossible either. Below, we have provided you with a quick and easy checklist to help you get going on your move to a new state.

Cut Down on Your Clutter

One of the first things you want to do before you move out of state is cut down on the clutter that you have in your home. Unfortunately, you cannot always take everything with you because it will be costly. Now, that is not to say that you cannot take items with you, but you should get quotes prior to the move should you want to take specific items.

Decluttering is one of the first things you will need to do no matter what. This is the process of going through your items and removing everything you do not need, want, or will not use. For example, if you have a liquor cabinet filled with half-full bottles of alcohol, you will want to either drink these items, pour them out, or give them away before you move. You can always buy more for your new home as it does not make sense to pay to move the used ones you have right now.

Choose a Moving Company Wisely

There is nothing worse than choosing a bad moving company to help you with your move across state lines. In fact, the moving company you choose can make or break the entire move for you. You want to take some time and choose someone who is qualified, insured, licensed, and most of all EXPERIENCED. The movers should understand any applicable laws and rules. In addition, you want movers who are committed to getting the job done and will arrive on time.

As a side note, you do want to shop around for a mover to find the best prices for your situation. Do keep in mind though that cheap does not mean best, so choose wisely.

Use Quality Moving Supplies

Since you will be moving out of state, you do not want to use the cheapest and flimsiest boxes on the market. This is the time for you to take some extra money and put it into some good moving supplies, trust us, it will pay off in the end.

As you do choose your moving supplies, think about what it is you will be moving. Your main goal is to keep your items safe and protected. Remember, the items will be on a truck traveling a long distance and possibly making lots of turns, so bubble wrap, padding, and similar materials are a must.

Make Your Moving Trip Seamless

Don’t forget to ask for help! You cannot make the move by yourself and you don’t want to try to either. Take a moment and ask your friends for help and keep the above tips in mind.
