If you are planning on taking your hot tub with you when you move, you need to pack it correctly to ensure that it makes it to your new place. Below, we will go over some tips to help ensure you have success when you move yours.

  1. Disconnect the Electric Supply

The first thing you want to do is unplug your hot tub from any electrical outlets. If you leave the tub plugged in, you may injure yourself or cause serious injuries to others when you drain the water out of it. If you want to make certain that the hot tub is disconnected from all power sources, unplug the electric supply and then turn all of the power off to the outlet from your main circuit box.

  1. Drain Your Hot Tub

The next step is to drain your hot tub and remove all of the water that is held within it. This can take an hour or two depending on the size of the hot tub and how quickly it drains. All hot tubs will have a drain plug that can be opened up and each plug is usually on the side of the tub. Locate yours and then allow the tub to drain itself.

One thing to keep in mind is that you may want to open your porch door or make sure you have a way for the water to exit from your porch.

  1. Remove Any Covers and Accessories Then Tip it on its Side

If you have a cover on your hot tub, it helps to remove it before you start moving it. If you do not remove it, you will find that it is much harder to control the hot tub when you are trying to maneuver it around.

Once you have all accessories and covers removed from the hot tub itself, then go ahead and tip the hot tub up onto its side. This will take more than one person to accomplish. Ideally, you will have three or four people to help you with this job.

  1. Moving the Actual Hot Tub

Now that you have the hot tub on its side, you can roll it onto a dolly. Once on the dolly, you will need to secure it to the dolly with tie down straps. These straps will prevent the hot tub from rolling around or falling off when you are moving it.

When you are confident that the hot tub is secure, you can begin wheeling the dolly, but always make sure that you move slowly and go over any bumps and stairs with ease. Once you have arrived where you want to place the hot tub, carefully remove the tie down straps while your helpers hold the tub in place.

If you are moving cross country or if you do not have the needed help to move the hot tub, consider hiring a professional to complete the job for you.
