If you are a procrastinator, then you know that waiting until the last minute is not always the right plan. If you have a bad habit with this, it is something that you want to work on to avoid when it comes to your moving day. Below, we will go over some of the most commonly made mistakes by those who do procrastinate. Hopefully, you can avoid these mistakes yourself.

  1. Failing to Pack Your Items

Ah!!! It’s moving day and not a single item in your home is packed. What to do? You simply can’t move your items like this unless you are okay with your items being in shambles when you arrive at your new home.

It is important that you plan and take time to pack up your home properly before move day arrives. You will find that not packing causes you to stress more than you need to and you may accidentally break a valuable or two in the process.

Typically, you should pack up to a month in advance, but if you are a true procrastinator and don’t mind a bit of pressure, a week should do.

  1. Not Reserving a Moving Truck

If you fail to reserve a moving truck, you may be stuck begging your neighbor to borrow their truck or you may be left making the move in your small sedan. But, what’s worse than completely forgetting to reserve a truck? Waiting too long and no trucks being available at all!

If you know what day you will be moving, reserve a truck to keep your sanity. Moving trucks will quickly disappear from the rental facility’s lot and you do not want to be left without a truck. Always reserve the truck at least a week in advance or a minimum of two days in advance.

As a side note, try to avoid renting a moving truck during popular move times such as holidays, the summer, and peak days.

  1. Not Securing Help for the Big Day

You know you cannot lift that couch by yourself nor can you carry that washer up those two flights of stairs, so why did you not ask for help?! If you are a procrastinator, you may find that you are asking friends and family to help you unload and load the moving truck a day or two before the move. You are unlikely to find much help as most people make plans days in advance.

To solve this problem, rent a dolly or simply hire moving professionals to help you out at the last minute. If you want your friends and family to help, ask them in advance, weeks in advance.

If you are a procrastinator, you need to make sure that you are not procrastinating too much when it comes to your move, otherwise, you will be stuck not making much of a move. Always ask for and hire help in advance and don’t forget to rent the moving truck!
