When the movers arrive at your home, you want to put them to work right away. This means that you must be prepared and you must be organized. Otherwise, you will be paying for them to wait around until you get your moving act together.

Below, we will go over some steps that you should be taking BEFORE the movers arrive on your front door step.

  1. Go Through Your Stuff and Pack It

Go through everything in your home and throw out everything that you do not want or need. The movers do not want to sit around while you sort through each piece of clothing or kitchen equipment.

In addition, you should make sure that you have packed all of your items prior to the movers arriving. All items you plan to take need to be in a box, wrapped, and labeled for the smoothest process.

  1. Put Items to Be Moved in One Section

Items that are being moved should be placed in one section of the home and clearly labeled so that the movers know what is supposed to be moved and what is not. If you have any items that you do NOT want moved, make it clear that these items stay behind.

It helps to have someone walk around with the movers and point out the items that need to go on the moving truck and which ones need to be set to the side.

  1. Insurance is a Must

You always want to get moving insurance before the big day. Typically, the moving company you hire will have movers’ insurance and you can rest assured knowing that your items are covered. If the company is not insured, you should get your own movers’ insurance to protect your belongings and home.

  1. Take the Kids and Pets Elsewhere

If you have kids and pets, make arrangements for them to be somewhere else during the move. It is easy for them to run out front doors, hide under furniture, and make the day more stressful than it needs to be. To prevent that from happening, have a relative watch your children and place your pets in a boarding facility until the move is over.

If you are planning on moving, the above steps are things you need to do before the movers arrive. The more prepared you are, the quicker the process will go.
