Prepping your fresh water tank is an effective method of preparing your RV for storage while protecting the RV at the same time. Taking steps to prep your RV’s fresh water tank will ensure that it does not fail due to improper care.

Below, we will talk about how you can prep your fresh water tank on your RV and get it ready for storage.

Fresh Water RV Tank Preparation

As you travel and drive your RV around, you will find that your fresh water tank is not kept as clean as you may like. Not only does it encounter chemicals, it can become dirty and thus cause health problems for you and your family later.

Prepping your fresh water tank is a solid way for you to make sure that your tanks are clean, sanitized, and healthy. Fortunately, the process is simple. Let’s look.

  1. You should empty the fresh water tank completely from any water that may be in it. You do not have to dry out the tank, just make sure the water is removed.
  2. Fill the fresh water tank up to about three-quarters full. You want to use water that you trust and know is not packed with any chemicals or toxins.
  3. Once the tank is filled up to three-quarters, you can then pour a cup of bleach into the tank. You do not have to stir it around or mix it up. Allow the bleach to sit in the tank for 20 minutes.
  4. Empty the water from the tank and refill it to three-quarters height again. Allow the new water (without bleach) to sit for 10 to 15 minutes.
  5. Empty the water and smell the inside of the tank. If you notice there is still a scent of bleach, repeat the process again with clean water and allow it to sit for another 10 minutes.
  6. Once you no longer smell bleach in the tank, you have completed the process and can utilize the tank as needed.

A Well-Maintained RV is a Great Camping RV

Once your tanks are cleaned and sanitized, you can fill them up and head out on the open road. A properly maintained RV is a great RV for you to spend day trips, weekends, or vacations in. Prepping your fresh water tank is simple and can help ensure you and your family’s health are not at risk.
