Heading into the city of Chicago can be scary, but exciting at the same time. If you are not used to the city life, you have some small adjustments to make, but you will be able to quickly acclimate yourself to the lifestyle and hustle bustle.

Below, we will go over some things that you need to know before you actually make the move officially. These things will help you finalize your decision.

  1. Always Have an Umbrella Ready

It is no lie that it can be windy and rainy in Chicago. After all, the city is known as the Windy City. When it comes down to it, you need to have an umbrella on you at all times. If you do not, you will find that getting through the city is near impossible, unless of course you do not mind being drenched in rain.

When you do go to purchase an umbrella, make sure that you choose one that has wind vents. Yes, they cost a bit more, but they are worth it.

  1. No Ketchup

If you plan to eat a hot dog, just avoid the ketchup. If you want to be in an awkward social situation, go ahead and use the ketchup.

Chicago natives love their hot dogs made Chicago style and that means NO ketchup. In fact, you will likely see many different signs and banners talking about how ketchup is not allowed.

  1. Leave the Navy Pier Alone

Unless you want to deal with all of the tourists and the crowds, you should leave the Navy Pier alone. If you do want to go to the pier, make it worth your time and head over to the Chicago Shakespeare Theater. You will be able to see some stellar shows and it is worth every penny.

  1. No Car Necessary

If you do not have a car, do not worry. In fact, you really don’t need one anyways. There are many different transportation systems throughout the city and you are likely to be able to travel by bus and subway to everywhere you need to go.

If you do have a car, you will get used to tickets. Even if you think it is okay to park there, it probably is not and you probably shouldn’t. The solution? Take the subway.

  1. You Need to Pick a Sports Team and Stick to It

When it comes to sports, it is either the White Sox or the Chicago Cubs. You don’t have much of an option outside of that, so just pic one and keep the town happy. If you find that you do not know who to cheer on, ask the locals who they like or just take a shot in the dark.

The above five things are helpful things to know when you move to Chicago. You will find that the city has a lot to offer you and there is even more to do and see than you can imagine.
