Have you ever driven past a storage unit and wondered why people use them? Or, have you wondered what people put into them? Many people find themselves thinking the same thing and the article below will point out some of the reasons people do use storage units.

1. To Store Items

Yes, it seems like a pretty blatant answer, but it is the truth. People utilize a storage unit to place their items in. But, why? Often, it is because they do not have any additional room in their home to store the items, but they are not yet ready to get rid of the items.

The two most common examples are as follows:

1). People use storage units while they are in between places to live. For example, someone may have been moving out of a four bedroom home and into a small one bedroom apartment until they can purchase another home. They do not want to get rid of their items, so they rent out a storage unit to keep their items safe.

2). People use storage units to keep things out of sight. One of the most common examples of this is at Christmas time. Some people will rent a unit to hide Christmas presents as they have no where else to hide the items in their home.

2. To House Seasonal Items

Items that are seasonal can only be used in the season they are designed for. Storage units are often used to allow people to store those seasonal items until they can recall them. For example, someone may store a boat in a storage unit until it is warm enough outside for them to take it out. Other common seasonal items that are stored include decorations for holidays, clothes, sports gear, swimming pool items, and similar.

3. To Keep Business Inventory and Files Safe

Not all businesses have the means to protect or store their inventory or files on site. When a business is out of room, they often turn to storage units to store their files and additional inventory. This is a great way for a business to remain operational with becoming too cramped too. For example, medical offices will often utilize storage units to keep their records safe, especially for those records that are very old or records where the individual is no longer a patient.

4. To Park a Car

Sometimes, people run out of room to park a car or they simply have an antique car that they want to keep safe. Many people use storage units for their vehicles, and it is common. While storing a vehicle inside an enclosed unit is ideal for some, it may not be for others and there are additional options such as outdoor parking, covered spots, and more.

5. To Transition from School Term to Summer and Back

When the summer rolls around, college students flock to the local storage units to keep their dorm room items safe. Instead of each student hauling these items back and forth to home and school, they simply put them in a storage unit until the next term.
